Anxiety

"You don't have to control your thoughts. You just have to stop letting them control you" - Dan Mill

Understanding Anxiety

Anxiety is more than just "stress" - it is a persistent, pervasive condition that can feel overwhelming.

According to the DSM-5, Generalized Anxiety Disorders (GAD) is a chronic condition (i.e. it persists for more than 6 months) and involves:

  • Excess worry
  • Fearfulness about daily situations
  • Restlessness, irritability, and distress/impairment in daily living, amongst other symptoms.

Some describe anxiety as feeling like being on "constant alert". Like depression, when this condition is left untreated, it can impact daily living and function - but recovery is possible, and help does work.

Our Approach

At Ontario RN, we offer evidence-based, non-pharmaceutical therapies to guide you toward calm, confidence, and clarity. Our providers deliver evidence-based techniques in treating anxiety, such as passive and progressive muscle relaxation techniques, cognitive behaviour therapy, and autogenic training to support emotional wellness.

While we do not prescribe or manage medication at Ontario RN, medication can play an important role in a comprehensive treatment plan. For pharmaceutical interventions, we encourage that you consult with your primary care provider.
